Explanation:Imaged during the New Horizons spacecraft flyby in July 2015, Pluto’s bladed terrain is captured in this close-up of the distant world. The bizarre texture belongs to fields of skyscraper-sized, jagged landforms made almost entirely of methane ice, found at extreme altitudes near Pluto’s equator. Casting dramatic shadows, the tall, knife-like ridges seem to have been formed by sublimation. By that process, condensed methane ice turns directly to methane gas without passing through a liquid phase during Pluto’s warmer geological periods. On planet Earth, sublimation can also produce standing fields of knife-like ice sheets, found along the high plateau of the Andes mountain range. Known as penitentes, those bladed structures are made of water ice and at most a few meters tall.

On October 10, Chuck D Presents This Day In Hip-Hop History will be available at all major retailers and Amazon. The book is a chronology of hip-hop’s history beginning with a 1973 house party where Kool DJ Herc debuted the break on his turntables. The anthology gives the history of the art form from those early days with Herc up until the present. Portraits created by Shepard Fairey of more than 100 major figures in hip-hop brings the history off the page and makes each entry flow. LL Cool J says,

To celebrate the release of famed LA producer TOKiMONSTA’s new
record, Lune Rouge, we created the first full-length interactive album
in VR. The fifth installment in this year’s Wave concert series, The
Lune Rouge Experience blows the “live music” paradigm wide open, letting
fans explore a planet inspired by the album artwork, dance in an
interstellar rave under an exploding sun, and remix a 3D world built out
of TOKiMONSTA’s music. Art Directed by Strangeloop, this wave is like
literally stepping inside the album art and experiencing Toki’s music in
a new dimension.
According to the credits. Stout and Moebius did the story and layout together, but Stout did the finished artwork. This page is particularly beautiful.

Image of the star V838 Monocerotis reveals dramatic changes in the illumination of surrounding dusty cloud structures. The effect, called a light echo, has been unveiling never-before-seen dust patterns ever since the star suddenly brightened for several weeks.
